Badass Tech That Every Man Should Add To His Holiday List This Year
November 28, 2017
It’s the most wonderful time of the year, and we know that the best tech gifts around are things that every guy wants to know about each holiday season. Since gadgets and the holidays go hand-in-hand — along with drinking way too much — we tapped our resident expert, Mario Teruel, on all the guy gifts to keep an eye out for this year.
And, man, do we want all of these things.
1.) Amazon Echo Show — $179.99
Looking for an excuse to live in a state of perpetual karaoke? The Amazon Echo Show — technically a voice-controlled speaker, but packed with a video screen for displaying lyrics, making Skype-style calls, or calling up cute cat videos on demand (accidental claw to the groin… an all-time classic!) as well. It can also double as a, security camera, photo book, list maker, weather forecaster, and more. All they have to do is ask (the Echo Show, that is… we hear you might be a wee bit busy with the holidays).
2.) Call of Duty WW 2 — $60-$100
Like it when things go BOOM — especially in pant-soiling high-definition? Fire up your 60 inch TV, crank up the volume and prepare to blip back to World War II, where you can open a can of whoop-ass on an array of historical villains in the latest installment in the popular first-person shooter franchise. Storm Normandy on D-Day and battle across Europe with a young soldier who is facing the reality of war head-on alongside his brothers in arms in the multi-player favorite, Call of Duty.
3.) GoPro HERO5 Session — $299
Sometimes, it’s not enough to brag about that awesome snowboarding sesh you had during vacation, you have to show it. Now you can share your POV with the GoPro Hero 5 Session, a super-compact camera that can capture low and tight situations. And it’s waterproof, so you can take it from fresh powder one to frothy waves the next.
4.) August Smart Lock Pro + Connect — $249
If you know someone who constantly second-guesses locking the front door on the way to work, the Smart Lock Pro may be the clutch gift. Your smartphone become the key, and the door can be locked (and unlocked) remotely. There’s also keyless entry for friends and family, so no one’s left waiting out in the cold to get in. It also works with Alexa, Siri and Google Assistant.
5.) Ecobee4 Smart Thermostat — $250
Why get up from the couch when you can check the thermostat right from it? The Ecobee4 Smart Thermostat has room sensors to make sure there are no cold spots in the house, and you can change the temperature from its app if you want to adjust the heat before leaving work. It comes with built-in Amazon voice command service, so if you forgot to shut off the ‘stat before heading out to your mini-vacay, homegirl’s got you as well.
6.) Xbox One X — $499
The Xbox One X has powered up video gaming in a major way: It offers 40 percent more power than any other console currently on the market. With 12GB GDDR5 of graphic memory, a 6 Teraflop GPU and 8-core Custom AMD 2.3GHz CPU, plus more, this Xbox gives players a true 4K experience. Translated into non geek speak, it’s got enough horses under the hood to bring you some seriously gasoline-soaked set pieces, and explosions so detailed you’ll practically want to check your ass for shrapnel after playing.
7.) L 55-inch Class S-Series 4K UHD HDR Roku Smart TV — $379.99
Behold the Holy Grail of TVs. This has everything one would need: 4K Ultra HD picture clarity paired with High Dynamic Range (HDR) giving you the best picture ever. You can also access more than 4,000 streaming channels with over 450,000 movies and TV episodes with Roku TV. Set up a must-have video game console like the Nintendo Switch or Xbox One X (see below!), and cancel any plans you’ve made for the next few months since you likely won’t move from the TCL.
8.) Vyper 2 Vibrating Foam Roller — $199
This is going to come in handy when you go HAM on arm day at the gym. As you roll on it, you can hit up to three speeds for an intense massage. The Vyper 2 Vibrating Foam Roller helps with flexibility, circulation, and muscle soreness, which sounds more effective than your usual remedy of a Epsom bath and Salonpas strips.
9.) HP Sprocket 2-in-1 — $160
Sometimes your smartphone’s camera doesn’t cut it for quality photos. The HP Sprocket 2-in-1 is an instant camera and printer in one. It’s the size of a cell phone, so you can take some snaps then print out the 2”x 3” pics in a snap.
10.) VIVE Virtual Reality System — $599
To truly experience virtual reality, you have to get up and move around. VIVE lets you do that in a 15’x 15’ space, with real feel from a 360-degree controller, and headset tracking. Don’t want to be disturbed by the real world? Its Chaperone system will give you the heads-up if you’re stepping out of VR bounds.
